Cole, Williams and Cowart Pace Women's Track at Gotham Cup

NEW YORK - Senior Amanda Cole won the women's shot put and broke the school record in the weight throw, sophomore Paris Williams was the top collegiate finisher in the women's 500m and sophomore Assata Cowart took home first place in the women's 800m to lead the Temple Women's Indoor Track & Field team at the Gotham Cup from the Armory Track & Field center on Friday night.
For Cole, this was her third weight throw victory of the season in three meets, besting the competition with a throw of 55-03, which meets ECAC qualifying standards and breaks the Temple school record she had just set the previous week. In the shot put, she finished first with a throw of 42-09.
Williams completed the 500m in a time of 1:14.06, good enough to meet ECAC qualifying standards Cowart took the 800m with a time of 2:20.01.
"I was very pleased with the women's performance at the Gotham Cup," said first-year head coach Eric Mobley. "Each week I can the we are making progress and I think it's showing in the results."
Several other Owls turned in outstanding performances at the Gotham Cup. The Temple "A" 4x400 team finished third with a time of 4:00.2. In the womens one mile run, sophomore Rebecca Mims finished sixth with a time of 5:20.52. In the women's long jump, junior Brittany McRae finished fifth with a jump of 18-08. Sophomore Shadaya Bennett (1:16.99) finished fifth in the women's 500m. Sophomore Tashima Stephens (2:16.54) and Brittany OgunMokun (2:16.59) finished fifth and sixth in the women's 800m respectively.
The Owls return to action next weekend with the Terrier Cup from Boston University.
