Temple Wraps Up Road Trip With 5-2 Loss At William And Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Temple took on a nationally-ranked team for the second straight day and came up short in a 5-2 loss at #64 William and Mary on Sunday morning. Freshmen Filip Rams and Mansur Gishkaev were the only Owls to record victories in the match.

"It was a hard fought match against another nationally ranked team," head coach Steve Mauro said. "The match was closer than what the score indicated. We hope to learn from this match and move on against St. Francis on Friday."

Rams won at third signles, defeating Richard Wardell, 6-2, 7-5 and Gishkaev downed Varun Pandit, 6-2, 6-7, 10-8 at fifth singles.

Senior Nathan Spunad took Ilja Orre to three sets before falling 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 at fourth singles. William and Mary (3-0) captured all three doubles matches earn the first point.

The Cherry and White (1-3) return home to face St. Francis (NY) on Friday at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
