Defensive pressure and balanced scoring help Owls roll to third straight win

PHILADELPHIA – Forcing 31 turnovers led to victory number eight for Temple women's basketball as the Owls defeated Ohio (3-5) by a score of 65-43 on Thursday night. Three players scored in double figures for Temple, led by Kristen McCarthy with 15 points.
Temple (8-1) got 10 points apiece from LaKeisha Eaddy and Natasha Thames, with Eaddy adding a game-high four assists and a game-high four steals. Jasmine Stone tallied double figures in rebounds for the second straight game, grabbing a game-high 10 boards.
The Owls currently rank ninth in NCAA Division I in steals per game at 12.1, and kept that average rising with 13 steals against the Bobcats.
Temple scored 33 points off Ohio's 31 turnovers, while the Bobcats scored only 12 off Temple's season-low 15 turnovers. Ohio had been stingy on defense itself so far this season, having previously held six of its seven opponents to below 60 points.
Ohio led by as many as five in the opening half, but after a layup by Thames put Temple up 15-14 at the 9:40 mark, the Owls never trailed again.
Temple held the Bobcats scoreless for the final three and a half minutes of the first half as well as the opening four minutes of the second half, and used a 12-0 run in that span to lead 33-20 with 16:19 remaining.
Eaddy scored eight of her 10 points in the second half including two fast-break layups, the first of which put Temple ahead by 21 with five minutes to go. The Owls led by as many as 27 in the final minutes before Ohio closed on a 5-0 run.
Temple will play the last of its three games this week on the road, traveling to Kent State for a 2:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, Dec. 12.
