Women’s Basketball Falls to Villanova in Low-Scoring Contest

Owls’ four-game win streak snapped with 44-32 loss

PHILADELPHIA – Villanova used a strong second half to earn a 44-32 win against the Temple women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon, snapping the Owls' four-game win streak.
Temple (9-2) couldn't buy a basket throughout the contest, shooting a season-low 19 percent from the field. Villanova (7-2) struggled in the first half, but out-scored Temple 33-16 in the second. Villanova now stands at a perfect 3-0 in the Big 5, while Temple now stands at 0-1.
The Wildcats' Maria Getty was the lone player to score in double figures for the game with 11 points. Temple was led by Qwedia Wallace who scored seven points, and Marli Bennett with a game-high nine rebounds.
Both teams struggled mightily from the field in the opening half, with Temple getting the slight edge at 21.4 percent compared to 18.5 percent by Villanova.
Temple's largest lead of the half was the five-point advantage it held at halftime, 16-11. The Owls' LaKeisha Eaddy led all scorers with six points at the break.
Villanova opened the second half with a 9-2 run to take a two-point, 20-18 lead at 14:07. Temple got back on top by one just after the midway point, but a 13-3 Wildcat run put them up by nine with under six minutes remaining. The Owls never got within fewer than five points down the stretch.
Villanova also won the battle of the boards with 42 rebounds to Temple's 39. The lone bright spot for the Owls was committing a season-low nine turnovers.
Temple will take off for the holidays, returning to action on the road at Akron on Monday, Dec. 28.
