Owls In Fourth Place After Day One At A-10's

KINGSTON, RI - The Temple women's indoor track team is tied for fourth place after the first day of the Atlantic 10 Championships in Kingston, RI. The Owls were led by senior Devon DuPont in the pentathlon, and sophomore Paris Williams. Williams was the Owls lone first place qualifier, taking first in the 500m prelims.
Williams led the Cherry and White in the 500m, which was dominated by the Owls. Sophomore Assata Cowart and Shadaya Bennett also qualified in the event, with third and fifth place finishes respectively.
DuPont nabbed two first place finishes in the pentathlon, claiming the long jump (17-08.25) and 800m (2:25.78).
In the weight throw, senior Amanda Cole was narrowly edged out for first place by Daytons Mallory Barnes. Cole's toss of 59-01.25 was good enough to score second place, and valuable points for the Owls.
Other notable performances were had by Brittany McRae, who placed fourth in the long jump finals with a distance of 18-07.00. Carleen Allison also qualifyed in her event, placing fifth in the 400m qualifier with a time of 59.01.
The Atlantic 10 Championships will wrap up this afternoon, with the awards ceremony scheduled to take place at 3:00 p.m. Complete results for the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship will be posted at the end of competition on Saturday at www.atlantic10.org.
