NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Natasha Crawford captured first on bars (9.700) and all-around (38.35), while reigning ECAC Gymnast of the Week Katie Canning finished first on vault (9.700)as the Temple women's gymnastics team took first place at the Southern Connecticut State Tri-meet on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls had a rough start on the balance beam, having four of the six girls fall. Canning hit a strong set for a tie for first place with a 9.675. Crawford hit one of the best routines this season but was short changed by the judges and placed third with a 9.525.

The Cherry and White moved onto floor with hopes of improving but shortly showed that would not be the case. Three of the six floor competitors took a fall, putting the Owls at a larger deficit. Freshman Corrine Williams was able to pull out a second place finish to score a 9.75.

Vault showed improvement for the owls, having every competitor hit their vaults. Canning stuck her vault to earn her a 9.7 and a first place finish. Teammates Kaitlyn Watson and Crawford followed right behind with a second and third place finish.

Finishing out the meet on the uneven bars, the Owls truleyshowed their fight. The senior duo, Crawford an Nikki Berrian, swung their way to a first and second place finish. The rest of the bar team was right behind in the standings.

This is the first meet that senior co-captain Crawford was able to pull ahead of her younger teammate, Canning, for a first place finish in the all-around. Canning took second and Justine Beasley(SCSU) followed in third.

The Owls will travel toMaryland this coming Friday to take on the Terapins and North Carolina in a tri-meet.
