Temple Track Teams Open Outdoor Season At Wake Forest Invitational

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Temple track teams opened their outdoor season in successful fashion as they put on an impressive showing at this weekend's Wake Forest Invitational. Senior Amanda Cole was the Owls' lone first place finisher on the day, taking the title in the hammer throw, and qualifying for the NCAA Regional's with a personal-best distance of 186-07. Sophomore Bob Keogh led the men in the same event, placing second with an IC4A qualifying distance of 180-08.
Junior Grant West nearly matched Keogh's throw, falling on his heels in third with an IC4A qualifying distance of 180-07. Also notching a second place finish in a field event, Kijuan Wilkinson landed a triple jump distance of 44-01.25.
More from the men, Travis Mahoney was the third-best collegiate finisher on the day in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in a time of 9:37.68. Fellow distance runner Mike May took third in the 10000m run with a time of 31:22.61.
Other notable performances were had by Brad McFadden, who took seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.46. The men's 4x100m team (Berger, Lee, Dryden, Boeni) took sixth with a time of 42.28.
On the women's side, Talitha Smith cleared a height of 5-04.25 in the high jump to seal a third place finish. Sophomore Paris Williams, the A-10 Women's Indoor Track Performer of the Year, continued her success in the 400m with a fourth place time of 56.68. In the same event, Carlleen Allison took ninth with a time of 57.80.
The women's relay teams also fared well, both qualifying for the ECAC's. The Temple `B' 4x100m (Allison, DuPont, Drayton, Butler) team placing fifth in a time of 14.73, and the 4x400m team (Williams, Allison, Stephens, Bennett) finishing the same with a time of 3:49.78. Also claiming a fifth place finish was sophomore Assata Cowart, finishing the 400m hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 1:02.02.
Brittany Clybourn nabbed seventh in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.73. Sophomore Rebecca Mims held down the distance events, placing tenth in the 3000m with a time of 10:43.57. Senior Devon DuPont took ninth in the 100m dash finals with a time of 12.53.
The Cherry and White compete next at the Danny Curran Invitational, hosted by Widener University on March 28.
