NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Women's gymnastics head coach Aaron Murphy and senior Nikki Berrian were both honored by the ECAC conference, as Murphy was named Coach of the Year and Berrian named the Specialist of the Year, the conference announced over the weekend.
This is the first time that Murphy has received this award and the first time any head Temple coach has received this award since the squad joined the ECAC.
Murphy is in his third season as head coach for the Temple women's gymnastics team. Prior to being named head coach, Murphy was the assistant coach for four years at Temple. A 2001 Temple graduate, HE was named the USA Collegiate Assistant Gymnastics Coach of the Year in 2004.
Berrian, a senior from Mechanicsburg, Pa., captured the Specialist award thanks to her hard work and consistency on the uneven bars.
This marks the second consecutive season that a member of the Temple women's gymnastics team has been named Specialist of the Year, Kristine McNeill received the honor last season.
The Owls return to action April 9th with the USAG Nationals.
