Women's Gymnast Katie Canning Qualifies For NCAA Regional

PHILADELPHIA - Katie Canning of the women's gymnastics team has qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the all-around, the NCAA gymnastics selection committee announced on Tuesday. Canning is the first Temple gymnast to qualify for regionals since Lexi Zafferes competed in the vault regional in 2005.
Canning has been the Owls' top gymnast all season long, consistently posting team-high scores on vault, balance beam and all-around. She was named the ECAC Women's Gymnast of the Week three times during the season, and captured the ECAC Balance Beam title on Saturday with a score of 9.850.
Canning's career-high in the all-around is 38.95, which she scored against Cornell on March 14.
Canning will compete in the Northeast Regional against Alicia Talucci (Pittsburgh) Lorraine Galow (Bridgeport), Alina Liao (Yale), Jordan Brewer (Penn).
The Northeast NCAA Regional which will take place April 4 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
