Women's Crew Wins Gold In Varsity 8 Petite At Murphy Cup

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's crew team competed on the Schuylkill River for the first time this season, hosting the Murphy Cup on Saturday, March 28. The Owls took home gold in the Varsity 8 Petite division, while the Novice 8 and Lightweight 4 finished third and fourth, respectively.
The Temple Crew teams hosted what was the largest Murphy Cup in the history of the event. The Schuylkill River played host to 43 universities from up and down the east coast. The Murphy Cup has grown into one of the top twelve largest collegiate regattas in the country.
The Murphy Cup went off without a hitch on Saturday, under cloudy skies and a slight chop on the Schuylkill. Head Coach Gavin White stated that the timeliness of the start was, “A credit to the outstanding group of officials and the stakeboat work of Al Wachlin.
The Varsity 8, consisting of Laura Altimari, Laura Scullin, Bailey Chick, Mary Webster, Kendra Dickenson, Mary Peach, Brynn Moore, Nicole Wagner, and Jillian Ploof, finished in a time of 6:56.81. The Novice 8, consisting of Dana Meadows, Kara Jackson, Meagan Hanlin, Amy Shrader, Allison Boc, Taylor Wasserleben, Rebecca Rosenberg, Molly Shreiner, and Isabella Bourbon, finished in a time of 7:07.63.
The Lightweight 4 boat finished in a time of 8:14.16, and was rowed by Caitlin Pennington, Allison Bates, Colleen Bianco, Stephanie Kiluk, and Maureen McDermitt.
The Owls will take to the water next when they travel to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic, April 4 and 5.
