PHILADELPHIA Senior Shenita Landry was voted the Atlantic 10's Most Improved Player, in a poll conducted by the Conference coaches. This is the third straight season that Temple has taken home the Most Improved Player award. Landry and junior LaKeisha Eaddy were also named to the A-10's Second Team and All-Defensive Team, while Kristen McCarthy garnered All-Rookie honors.
Landry truly was the most improved player in the Conference, nearly doubling her scoring and rebounding averages from her junior to senior seasons. As a junior, she averaged 6.6 ppg and 5.7 rpg and as a senior, she is leading the Owls with 12.6 ppg. Her 9.3 rpg ranks second in the A-10 and 38th in the nation. Landry has had 11 double-doubles this season, after posting just two in her previous three seasons, and was twice named A-10 Player of the Week. The Milwaukee, Wisc. native opened the season with a career-high 17 rebounds in a win against Bowling Green and scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Owls over Charlotte. Landry has scored in double figures in every game but seven this season.
A preseason All-Conference selection, Eaddy leads the A-10 in assists and steals, compiling 153 assists and 74 steals. Her assists tally is currently ranked second on Temple's single season assist list. She is also currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.4 ppg. Eaddy has had four double-doubles on the season, including three in points and assists, and set a new Liacouras Center record for most assists in a game with 12 against URI (1/14). The Columbia, Md. native has reached double figures in 19 games, including a season-high 21 in the win over Richmond.
McCarthy has made quite an impact in her first season on North Broad, starting in 18 of 28 games and averaging 8.7 ppg and 4.3 rpg. She scored in double figures for the first time in a tough game against Florida State and notched double digits in nine more games, including a career-high 19 in wins against Rhode Island and Saint Louis. The La Puente, Calif. native was instrumental in the win at George Washington, scoring 15 points on three-of-five shooting from long range.
Temple earned the #2 seed in the A-10 Championship after finishing in second place during the regular season. The Owls (20-8, 11-3 A-10) tied with Charlotte for second place but grabbed the #2 seed after defeating the 49ers during the regular season. TU received a first round bye and will play the winner of the Saint Bonaventure/Saint Joseph's game on Saturday, March 7th at 5:30 p.m. in Charlotte's Halton Arena.
