BOSTON, MA - Day two at the ECAC Championships was one for the record books for the Temple women's track team. The Owls found themselves on the podium for the first time ever in school history, recording a third place overall finish at the ECAC Championships on Sunday in Boston, MA. Senior Amanda Cole became the first Temple female in twenty years to record an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark when she landed a second place toss of 62-05.00 in the weight throw.
Cole was narrowly edged by Ashley Williams of Maryland for first place in the event. As of results prior to competition this weekend, Cole's record-setting weight throw toss ranks in the top 25 in the nation.
Cole was not the only Owl to have a record setting performance on Sunday. Freshman Brittany OgunMokun claimed the title in the 500m finals, with a time of 1:12.62. Sophomore Paris Williams finished right on her heels with a second place time of 1:12.63. The two times are the second and third fastest in Temple history, respectively.
The women would not stop there, as Williams and OgunMokun joined forces with Devon DuPont and Tashima Stephens to claim the title in the 4x400m relay. The women finished the race in a time of 3:43.39.
The men's 4x400m relay team joined in the record-setting spirit, running a time of 3:15.95, their fastest in over five years.
Also on the men's side, Joshua Louis finished 12th in the high jump clearing a height of 6-08.25. Senior Marquise Stancil recorded a personal best in the 500m with a 12th place finish of 1:03.80.
"We had a great indoor season, and what our athletes did today helps jump start our program," said Head Coach Eric Mobley of his team's performance, "This was a great way to end our indoor season."
The ECAC/IC4A Championships conclude one of the most successful indoor track seasons the Cherry and White have seen in their history.
