Owls Compete In McHale Dual Meet With La Salle

The Temple track & field teams traveled across town to compete in the inaugural John L. McHale 49 Dual Meet, hosted by La Salle. Both the men and women took home the first McHale trophies. Senior Amanda Cole nabbed first in three out of the four throwing events, while sophomore Miles Dryden took home first in two events.

Cole easily won the hammer throw with a toss of 57.63m, then won the shot put with a throw of 10.98m, and the discus with a toss of 34.63m. Dryden took home gold in the 100m dash in a time of 10.90 and also the title in the long jump with a distance of 6.91m.

The Owls women dominated the short sprints, with Andrea Butler winning the 100m dash in a time of 12.39, while junior Paris Williams won the 400m in a time of 56.13. Tashima Stephens won the 800m run in a time of 2:17.10.

Junior Melissa Gale won the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.50m. Also in the field, Abigail Blomeke won the high jump by clearing a height of 1.58m, and Sequoia McBall landed a first-place distance of 10.72m in the triple jump.

Also claiming first place finishes were junior Daisy Amato (Javelin, 35.07), sophomore Alicia Martin (Long Jump, 5.38m), and the 4x100m relay team (Allison, DuPont, Drayton, Butler; 47.54). Tying for first place in the 100m hurdles were senior Devon DuPont and junior Brittany McRae (14.81).

On the men's side, junior Joshua Louis won the 200m dash in a time of 22.10. Louis also dominated the high jump by clearing a height 2.08m. In the 400m, senior Marquise Stancil won with a time of 48.09.

The men swept the throwing events, with Bryce Buffaloe winning the shot put (14.01m), Brian Littlepage winning the discus (41.02m), Grant West winning the hammer throw (57.26m), and Chris Durante winning the javelin (51.78m).

Other notable performances were had by Aaron Taylor, who finished first in the 800m in a time of 1:53.91. Junior Brad McFadden won the 400m hurdles title in a time of 55.61, while both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams took first place honors. Sophomore Brian Smith won the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.81m.

The Cherry and White are back in competition on April 18, when they travel to Bethlehem, PA for the Greyhound Invitational.
