PENNSAUKKEN, N.J. - Temple women's crew placed fifth at the Atlantic 10 Rowing Championships held Saturday on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. The Owls finish was their highest finish since tying for fifth in the 2000 Championships.
Senior Laura Altimari, who stroked the Varsity 8 to its best performance in three years, earned first team all-conference honors while fellow senior Jillian Ploof, the coxswain on the Varsity 8, was named second team all-conference.
Temple's Varsity 8 placed fifth while the Novice 8 placed third which bodes well for the future of the program. The Owls' Quad posted a fourth place finish while the program's Varsity 4 placed fifth. The team's other points came from its Second Varsity 8 which finished second in the Petite Final.
Massachusetts captured its A-10 record 13th Championship with 141 points. Rhode Island finished second with 117 points followed by Saint Joseph's (110), Dayton (102), Temple (78), Duquesne (62), George Washington (43), Fordham (35) and La Salle (16).
The Owls return to the water next Saturday at the Bergen Cup held on the Schuylkill River.
