WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - Sophomore Andrew Mason shot a 74 on Sunday to tie for 48th at the Boilermaker Invitational, hosted by Purdue this weekend. For the 54-hole tournament, Mason carded an 82-69-74=225 (+9) and was the Owls top finisher for the third straight event. Temple placed 16th as a team in the competitive field that featured seven teams ranked in the top 100 nationally by GolfWeek.
Senior Kevin Busteed recorded a 79 on Sunday to go with a 73 and 76 yesterday to finish in a tie for 62nd (228, +12). Junior Eric Plisko shot a 77 in round three and finished with a consistent 76-76-77=229 (+13) to tie for 67th.
Sophomore Mark Edmondson had a 76 on Sunday to finish with a 77-76-76=229 (+13) and tied for 69th. Senior Adam Pifer (78-84-80=242, +36) rounded out the Owls lineup and placed 89th.
Illinois, ranked 14th by GolfWeek, edged Penn State by one stroke with a 287-284-284=855 (-9). PSU led after two rounds and finished second, followed by Iowa, Wisconsin and Indiana in the Big Ten dominated event.
Temple shot a 304-297-306=907 (+43) to finish 16th on the Kampen Course at the Boilermaker Golf Complex, which hosted the NCAA Championship last season. It played to a par 72 at 7,465 yards on Sunday.
The Cherry and White will travel to Florida next weekend for the Atlantic 10 Championship at the Mission Inn Resort. Live scoring will be available on owlsports.com
