Temple Mourns The Passing Of Basketball Great Mimi Carroll Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA The Temple University community mourns the passing of former womens basketball standout Mimi Carroll Kurtz (86). Mrs. Kurtz, 44, passed away on April 16 in her home in New Gretna, N.J.

Mrs. Kurtz, a member of both the Temple University and Big Five Hall of Fames, was one of the most prolific scorers in TU womens basketball history. She finished her career ranked sixth in scoring with 1,290 points and is seventh on the all-time field goals made list (513). A First-Team All-Big Five honoree as a senior, Mrs. Kurtz is also ranked 10th in field goals attempted with 1,141.

Following her graduation from Temple, Mrs. Kurtz used her teaching degree from Stockton State College and her masters degree from Rowan University to obtain a position as a history teacher at Pinelands Middle School. She also spent several years coaching the girls basketball team at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, N.J.

A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Kurtz is survived by her husband, George; sons, Justin and Shawn Theno; stepdaughters, Melissa Kurtz, Megan Kurtz-Maher, Erin Kurtz and Lindsey Chiappisi; father, Joseph Carroll; siblings, Joseph Jay Carroll III, Martin Carroll, James Carroll and Megan Karalis.

The family will host a visitation on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Wood Funeral Home in Tuckerton, N.J. A service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Galloway, N.J.
