Owls Bode Well In Opening Day Of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA Several of the Temple track field athletes participated against some of the nation's best talent in the opening day of competition at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field. Action was highlighted by sophomore Assata Cowart, who clocked in an ECAC qualifying time in of 1:01.98 in the 400m hurdles.
Cowart placed 19th in the field of 59, and was the lone representative from the A-10.
In the field events, senior Amanda Cole placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 168-10. Junior Melissa Gale represented the Owls in the pole vault, clearing a height of 10-11.75.
The Temple women's 4x400m relay team (Allison, DuPont, Stephens, Williams) broke the tape at 3:47.89, meeting ECAC standards. The time was the 22nd fastest on the day in the field of 72, and qualified them for the ECAC finals on Saturday at 5:55. The 4x100m team (Allison, DuPont, Drayton, Butler) ran a time of 47.88, also qualifying for ECAC marks.
Sophomore Brittany Clybourn notched a fifth place finish in the long jump, meeting ECAC marks with a jump of 19-2. Junior Brittney McRae also competed in the event, tying for 21st with a jump of 17-10.25.
The Owls are back in action tomorrow, beginning with junior Brad McFadden in the 400m hurdles at 9:00 a.m. For the women, sophomore Sequoia McBall will lead off in the triple jump at 11:00 a.m.
