Men's Tennis Edged By Saint Louis In A-10 Quarterfinal, 4-3

MONROEVILLE, PA - Sixth-seeded Temple dropped a 4-3 match to #3 Saint Louis in an Atlantic 10 quarterfinal on Friday evening at Club 4 Life. The hard-fought match had three singles matches go to a third set and the loss snaps a seven-game winning streak for the Owls. Earlier in the day, TU defeated city rival, 4-0, to advance to the quarters.
The Cherry and White (13-9) dropped the doubles point against SLU. Senior Eduardo Saavedra and freshman Filip Rams suffered a 8-5 loss at #1 and senior Ricardo Velazquez and freshman Mansur Gishkaev dropped a tight 8-6 match at #2.
In singles, the Owls managed three victories but it was one too little to overcome the Billikens. Velazquez beat PJ Hendrie, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 at #3 and freshman Dmitry Vizhunov defeated Jakei Hendrie, 6-3, 6-4 in Temple's only straight set win at #4.
At #5, Gishkaev downed Sean McManus, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Rams took James McArthur to a third set before falling, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at #2.
Saint Louis (13-5) advances to the semifinals to face #2 Xavier at 2 PM. George Washington and St. Bonaventure meet in the other semifinal.
Temple will take on Duquesne in the consolation bracket on Saturday at 2 PM.
