Owls Fall In Season Finale To Charlotte, 4-3; Finish Sixth At A-10s

MONROEVILLE, PA - The Temple men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Charlotte on Sunday afternoon at Club 4 Life and ended its season with a sixth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Owls recorded a 14-10 record this spring.

Senior Ricardo Velazquez and freshman Mansur Gishkaev captured a 8-4 win at #1 doubles but the Cherry and White dropped the point after falling at the final two spots.

In singles, freshman Dmitry Vizhunov won 6-3, 6-4 at #3 over Anthony Davison while Gishkaev captured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Charles Martin-Lecamp at #4.

Senior Eduardo Saavedra won his final match as an Owl, defeating Ricky Cuellar, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Nathan Spunda took Moritz Bernhoerster to three sets before faling 0-6, 6-3, 10-7 at #1.

Temple was playing without freshman Filip Rams, who led the team in victories this season, playing at the #1 and #2 singles positions.

Th sixth place finish is the best finish for the Owls since 2006. The Owls placed third in 2006 but no higher than seventh in any year since 2001.

The Owls will graduate Saavedra, Velazquez and Spunda but return four starters in Stephanides, Vizhunov, Rams, and Gishkaev.
