Temple To Honor Its Best At Breakfast Of Champions On Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University will honor its best in athletics, both on and off the field, at its seventh annual Breakfast of Champions presented by PNC, Wednesday, April 29 starting at 7:00 a.m. on the floor of the Liacouras Center. In all, over 200 Temple student-athletes will be recognized for academic and athletic accomplishments culminating with the announcement of the top male and female Student-Athletes of the Year.
"The Breakfast of Champions is the signature event each year for Temple University Athletics, and is unique among collegiate athletics," said Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw, who instituted the event in 2003, his first full year at the school. "It allows us to annually recognize the `best of the best' at Temple in intercollegiate athletics, and the event is something that our administration and student-athletes take great pride in."
Along with Student-Athlete of the Year awards, student-athletes will be named to the Director's Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 cumulative grade point averages), the President's Honor Roll (3.50 or above) and the Trustees Ten (top 10 student-athletes in terms of grade point averages). The Top Team GPA Award will be presented as will The Owl Cup, given to the team that best exemplifies the initiatives set forth by the NCAA Champs/Life Skills program.
Also being awarded will be the Enterprise Spirit and Sportsmanship Awards, given annually to student-athletes who have demonstrated a devotion to the essence of sport through their acts of sportsmanship. Other student-athletes and coaches will also be recognized for their athletic achievements and community service during the course of the year.
950 ESPN personality Don Tollefson, a Philadelphia sports media fixture for the last four decades, will again serve as the event's host.
