BRONX, NY - Temple won its fourth straight match and improved to 5-1 against Atlantic 10 opponents with a 7-0 victory over Fordham on the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts. The Owls did not drop a set in singles and cruised in doubles to improve to 10-8 this season.
In doubles, freshman Filip Rams and senior Eduardo Saavedra won 8-2 at #1, while senior Ricardo Velazquez and freshman Mansur Gishkaev won 8-1 at #2. At #3, senior Nathan Spunda and freshman Dmitry Vizhunov captured an 8-3 victory to give the visitors the doubles point.
Spunda beat Dallas Harting, 6-1, 6-4 at #1 while Rams beat Brandon Abbatiello, 6-1, 6-1 at #2. Spunda is 3-0 since moving into the first singles slot and Rams now has a team-best 21 wins.
Velazquez beat Kevin Maloney, 6-0, 6-3 at #3 for his second straight win and Vizhunov beat Sotiris Georgiou, 6-2, 6-1 at #4. Gishkaev handed Peter Slucky a 6-2, 6-1 defeat at #5 for his sixth straight win while Saavedra beat Ken Fukumoto, 6-0, 6-1 at #6.
Fordham drops to 5-7 with the loss.
The Owls host Rider on Tuesday at 3 PM at the TU Pavilion.
