Track Preps for ECAC/IC4A Championships

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men’s and women’s track & field teams will send their ECAC/IC4A qualifiers to Princeton, N.J. this weekend to compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships. The men have 10 athletes competing in 12 events, while the women have six individual qualifiers for seven events. Both the men and women qualified three relay teams each.
For the men, sophomore Tim Boeni and junior Joshua Louis will be competing for individual titles in two events. Boeni qualified for the 200m dash at the Atlantic 10 Championships (21.51) and met IC4A marks in the long jump at the Greyhound Invitational (24-03.50). Louis qualified for both of his events at the 2009 McHale Cup, posting a time of 14.58 in the 110m hurdles and clearing 6-09.75 in the high jump.
Boeni and Louis will team with sophomores Ryan Berger and Miles Dryden in the 4x100m relay. The 4x400m relay team of Marquise Stancil, Anthony Boone, Aaron Taylor, and Jason Sullivan met IC4A marks at the Florida Relays, throwing down a time of 3:14.59.
The newly formed 4x800m relay (Stancil, Taylor, Sullivan, Mitch Stroh) met IC4A marks and broke the school record at the A-10 Championships, running a time of 7:32.39.
Senior Marquise Stancil will represent the Owls in the 400m dash, qualifying with a time of 47.74. In the 400m hurdles, junior Brad McFadden ran his best IC4A qualifying time at the A-10 Championships, finishing in 52.87.
The Cherry and White’s lone distance qualifier, sophomore Mike May, met IC4A marks in the 10000m run with a time of 30:57.36 at the A-10 Championships.
In the throws, junior Grant West leads a trio of Owls in the hammer throw. West, the TU hammer throw record holder, posted a toss of 196-05 at the A-10 Championships. He is joined by sophomore Bob Keogh, who qualified at the Florida Relays with a throw of 185-11, and senior Bryce Buffaloe, who posted a 177-03 and the Lions Invitational.
Freshman standout Eric Brittingham saved his best for the Greyhound Invitational, landing an IC4A mark in the javelin with a toss of 200-00.
As for the women, seniors Carlleen Allison and Amanda Cole look to lead the Cherry and White at the ECAC’s. Allison qualified for the 200m dash with at time of 24.80 at the A-10 Championships, while Cole posted her season-best hammer throw of 189-01 at the McHale Cup.
One of the Owls most versatile athletes, senior Devon DuPont shattered the school record in the heptathlon while finishing second at the A-10 Championships. DuPont punched her ticket to the ECAC’s with a point total of 5043.
Sophomore Brittany Clybourn will be serving double-duty for the Cherry and White, competing in the 100m hurdles and long jump. Clybourn qualified for the 100m hurdles at the A-10’s with a time of 14.28, and posted a long jump of 19-02 at the Penn Relays.
Competing with Clybourn in the long jump will be junior Brittney McRae, who qualified at the A-10’s with a team-best distance of 19-04.25.
Sophomore Assata Cowart will be making her first appearance at the ECAC’s, qualifying for the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.68 at the conference championship. Classmate Paris Williams will be running the 400m dash, qualifying at the Florida Relays in a time of 55.04.
In the relays, the 4x100m team (Allison, DuPont, Rose Drayton, Andrea Butler) qualified at the McHale Cup, running a time of 47.54. The 4x400m relay (Allison, DuPont, Williams, Butler) clocked in an ECAC mark of 3:40.89 at the Penn Relays, while the 4x800 (Cowart, Shadaya Bennett, Rebecca Mims, Tashima Stephens) ran a 9:02.92 at the A-10 Championships.
