Track Teams End A-10 Championship With Solid Finishes

CHARLOTTE, NC – After two days of competition with the conference’s best, the Temple men’s and women’s track & field teams boasted quality finishes. The men took third overall, their best finish ever at the A-10’s, while the women repeated their fourth place finish from a year ago. Junior Brad McFadden captured an individual title in the 400m hurdles, while sophomore Paris Williams took first for the women in the 400m dash.
McFadden ran a time of 55.06 en route to his first place finish. He, along with freshman Eric Brittingham, became the first male athletes since 2005 to capture an individual title in the outdoor championships.
In the 400m dash, senior Marquise Stancil met IC4A marks, running a time of 47.74 to take second in the event. Sophomore Tim Boeni nabbed fourth in the 200m dash with a IC4A qualifying time of 21.51.
In the field, sophomore Kijaun Wilkinson met IC4A qualifying marks in the triple jump, taking second with a 14.52m. Sophomore Alex Schiavi, the Owls main decathlete, placed second overall in the two day event, scoring a total of 6059. Other notable performances were had by Aaron Taylor in the 800m (6th, 1:52.95), and Miles Dryden in the 100m dash (6th, 10.90).
The 4x100m relay team (Berger, Dryden, Louis, Boeni) took 4th in a time of 41.46, while the 4x400m team (Lee, Stancil, Taylor, Sullivan) finished second in a time of 3:15.07.
The men took third with 127 points, their best finish ever. Finishing first was Charlotte (217.5), followed in second by Rhode Island (130). For the women, sophomore Paris Williams nabbed the Owls lone first place finish on the day, winning the 400m dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 55.06.
In the heptathlon, Devon DuPont broke the TU record tallying 5043 points, good enough for second place and ECAC qualifying marks. Also making a second place finish was sophomore Assata Cowart, finishing the 400m hurdles in an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 1:00.68.
Sophomore Brittany Clybourn took fourth in the 100m hurdles finals in a time of 14.28. In the 800m run, Tashima Stephens ran a time of 2:14.19 to take sixth.
The 4x400m relay team (Allison, Cowart, DuPont, Williams) placed second in a time of 3:42.87, while the 4x100m squad (Lambert, Drayton, Allison, Butler) took fourth in a time of 47.83, and the 4x800m team (Cowart, Mims, Bennett, Stephens) finished sixth in a time of 9:02.92.
The women placed fourth with 88 points, finishing behind Charlotte (1st, 174), Dayton (2nd, 116.5), and Rhode Island (3rd, 109.5).
The track teams will be in action May 11 for the Tuppeny Twilight hosted by Villanova, and again next weekend for the ECAC/IC4A Championships beginning May 15.
