PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Andrew Mason, who became the first Temple golfer to earn all-Atlantic 10 honors since 2003, has been named the Owlsports.com Athlete of the Month for April. Mason led the Cherry and White in all three tournaments during the month and added a hole-in-one at Ohio State.
Helping TU to its best finish (fourth) at the Atlantic 10 Championship since 2002, Mason shot a 73-73-74=220 (+7) to place fifth in the 60-player field. It was the best showing by an Owl since James Chan finished fourth in 2003.
The sophomore opened the month by shooting a 79-73-76=228 (+15) to tie for 21st out of 74 players at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Ohio State. A week later, he shot a 82-69-74=225 to tie for 48th out of 93 players at the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational.
He averaged 74.8 strokes in nine rounds during the month, including 72.6 over his final five rounds.
