Men's Tennis Wraps Up Impressive Weekend At Navy Invitational

Owls outperform host Navy on final day
ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Temple men's tennis team completed a strong opening weekend to the 2009-10 season Sunday at the Navy Invitational. The Owls won three singles and two doubles matches against host Navy to wrap up the three-day event.
"It was a solid team effort and a great way to cap off the weekend," Temple head coach Steve Mauro said. "It was the first time in years that Temple outscored Navy in a tennis event. This should bode well for the rest of the fall."
The Rams brothers, Filip and Kacper, remained unbeaten at first doubles, besting the Navy duo of Nick Birger and Zach Nicholson, 8-5. Mansur Gishkaev and Dmitry Vizhunov took the second doubles flight for Temple with a hard-fought 8-6 won over Owen Bullard and Eddie Konrad.
Filip Rams also stayed undefeated at first singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Anderson Walls. His brother Kacper picked up his second singles win at second singles, 6-4, 6-2, over Matt Richmond. Gishkaev remained unbeaten at fourth singles, taking a three-setter, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, from Marcus Rebersak.
The Owls next play at Lehigh on October 10-11.
