Women's Gymnastics Opens Season With A Two-Meet Weekend

Owls compete in University of Maryland and George Washington Invitationals
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's gymnastics team jumpstarts their 2010 campaign with a two-meet weekend, competing in the University of Maryland and George Washington Invitationals on January 15 and 17, respectively.
“Since we have returned for training, we have been working out the speed bumps for this weekend and making sure the girls have the self-confidence they need to put on a good show,” commented fourth-year head coach Aaron Murphy. “On Friday, we will see Maryland, Cornell, and Bridgeport. Temple has had a good rivalry with the Cornell Big Red and Bridgeport is no team to take for granted.”
“Sunday will be a battle of the ECAC teams,” continued Murphy. “We look forward to showing the teams within our conference what Temple is bringing to the table this year. The coaching staff is confident in our girls and we hope they can perform as well as they have in the gym thus far.”
The Owls return 10 letterwinners from last year's history making team, which took third place at the ECAC Championships for the first time ever. Headlined by the return of two seniors – Nina Oteri and Danielle Viens – and three USAG All-America honorees in Katie Canning, Kaity Watson, and Corrine Williams, the Owls are raising the bar even higher this season.
Seven new additions will bolster Murphy's 2010 squad and give him depth in every event. Jean Alban, Brittany Clark, Ebone Grant, Avery Iudice, Natalie Kahler, Kirstie Viens, and Margaret Welch form a very capable group expected to make an immediate impact.
The Temple women's gymnastics team opens McGonigle Hall on February 6 in the Liberty Classic, and is also excited to be hosting this year's ECAC Championships on March 27 (also Alumni Homecoming).
