Women's Gymnastics Takes Third At Maryland Invitational

Williams places third on floor, fifth on balance beam

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Temple women's gymnastics team opened its 2010 season with a third place finish at the University of Maryland Invitational Friday evening. Highlighting action for the Owls was sophomore Corrine Williams, taking third place on floor and fifth on the vault.

Host Maryland took first place (194.250), followed by Cornell (189.375), Temple (188.025), and Bridgeport (187.350).

Williams scored a 9.725 on floor, and was joined by junior Katie Canning (7th, 9.600) and classmate Kaity Watson (9th, 9.575) in the top 10.

Watson, the Owls lone all-around competitor, placed fifth scoring a total of 36.325 points.

On balance beam, Williams posted a score of 9.700 for fifth place. Finishing on her heels was senior Nina Oteri, taking sixth with a score of 9.675.

On uneven bars, junior team-captain Kathyrn Ho led the Owls with a score of 9.400, enough for 12th place.

Up next for the Cherry and White is the George Washington Invitational, January 17 at 1:00 p.m.
