Gocht shatters school record in 800m

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Temple track and field teams took part in College Saturday Night at the Armory, held in New York City. The women finished third behind Big East foes Villanova and Connecticut.
Freshman Victoria Gocht exploded in the 800m, taking first place with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:09.93. Gocht shattered the Temple record in the event by nearly four seconds.
The 4x400m team, comprised of Tessa West, Sheina Roberts, Paris Williams, and Tonney Smith, broke the tape in first place with an ECAC qualifying time of 3:48.55.
The four women also fared well individually. Williams took third in the 400m (56.91, ECAC mark), while West finished third (1:15.71, ECAC mark) and Smith placed fourth (1:16.42) in the 500m.
Senior Brittney McRae took two second place finishes on the day, posting a time of 8.82 in the 60m hurdles, and landing 5.71m in the long jump. Both ECAC qualifying marks.
In the throws, newcomer Alanna Owen placed fourth in the weight throw (15.51m) and fifth in the shot put (12.65m). In the pole vault, senior Melissa (Gale) Hand tied for sixth, clearing a height of 3.30m.
Next, the Owls split the squads between the US Naval Academy Invitational and Princeton Relays, both held on January 23.
