Watson takes fourth all-around, Oteri second on balance beam

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Temple women's gymnastics team continued competition this weekend in the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, hosted Sunday afternoon by George Washington. The Owls, led by senior Nina Oteri and sophomore Kaity Watson, placed second only to North Carolina.
North Carolina scored a team total of 192.450, followed by Temple's 189.150. Host George Washington finished third, followed by Cornell, William & Mary, and Penn. This marked the first time since 1990 that TU has topped non-conference foe George Washington.
Watson scored 38.000 all-around, placing a team best fourth on vault (9.725) and sixth on uneven parallel bars (9.500). Junior Chelsea Troutman finished seventh on uneven parallel bars (9.425)
Oteri was the Owls' highest finisher of the day, taking second on balance beam with a score of 9.725. Sophomore Corrine Williams finished right behind her, tying for third with a score of 9.650. As a whole, the beam squad out scored powerhouse North Carolina.
On floor, junior Katie Canning led the way with a score of 9.725, good enough for fifth place.
The Owls travel to compete next against Ursinus on January 24 at 2:00 p.m.
