Freshman shattered 25-year old school record in 800m
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Announced by the league office today, Temple women's track & field freshman Victoria Gocht was named Atlantic 10 Women's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week, for the week ending January 18.
Gocht (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) shattered the Temple school record in the 800m at College Saturday Night at the Armory, running a conference-best time of 2:09.93. Her finish was good enough for first place in the event and also met ECAC qualifying standards.
The record, 2:14.18, was originally set by All-America honoree Karen Woods in 1985. Gocht was also named Owlsports.com Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
The Temple track & field teams are back in action this weekend, with the squads splitting to compete in the US Naval Academy Invitational and the Princeton Relays on January 23.
