Temple Women's Tennis Opens Season at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. - The Temple women's tennis team got the 2010 season started this weekend, traveling to New Hampshire to take on Dartmouth on Saturday, January 23. The Owls dropped a 7-0 decision to the Big Green.
In doubles action, Dartmouth started things off with an 8-2 win over Temple's number pair of freshman Katharina Mittag and junior Theresa Stangl. Junior Lucie Pazderova and senior Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova provided the Owls only victory of the day, defeating Jesse Adler and Julia Zak, 8-4, at second doubles. At third doubles, junior Josephine Bergman and sophomore Mellana Cramer dropped an 8-1 decision, giving the Big Green the doubles point.
Dartmouth earned a sweep in singles play. Pazderova drew a tough opponent in Molly Scott, ranked fourth regionally. Scott defeated Pazderova, 6-0, 6-2.
Rukavyshnykova pushed Sarah Leonard to the edge in the first set at second singles before falling 7-5, and dropping the second set 6-0. Stangl dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the third flight against Mary Beth Winingham.
At fourth singles, Mittag dropped a 6-0 first set to Adler, before coming back to claim the second set 6-4. Adler came out on top with a 6-3 third set.
Bergman took on Georgiana Smyser at fifth singles, falling 6-2, 7-5. Freshman May Johnson saw her first action for the Cherry and White, winning her first set 6-4 before dropping the next two, 6-2, 10-7, to Ryan Reichel.
In an exhibition match, Cramer fell to Jeri Recihel, 8-3.
Temple is 0-1 and will face Southern New Hampshire on Sunday, January 24.
