PRINCETON, N.J. – The Temple women's track team traveled to compete in the Princeton Relays Saturday afternoon. The Owls were led by three first place finishes from freshman Victoria Gocht, junior Tashima Stephens, and senior Brittney McRae.
For the second consecutive week Gocht nabbed a first place finish. The freshman ran a time of 57.08, nearly meeting ECAC qualifying marks in the 400m.
Stephens placed first in the 500m, running a time of 1:17.69. Junior Assata Cowart and classmate Shadaya Bennett finished two-three in the event, running times of 1:17.71 and 1:18.87, respectively.
McRae took the title in the 60m hurdles, running a time of 8.93. The senior also led the Owls in the 300m, taking a third place finish in a time of 41.38. In the same event, senior Paris Williams took fourth place (41.47), while Bennett took fifth (41.82).
In the distance events, junior Rebecca Mims placed fifth in the 3000m (10:58.56) and the one-mile run (5:19.23).
In the field, senior Melissa (Gale) Hand took a second place finish in the pole vault, bettering her school record and meeting ECAC standards clearing 3.65m.
Junior Brittany Clybourn also had a second place finish, landing a distance of 5.50m in the long jump. Sophomore Allana Owens continues to hold down the weight throw for the Owls, placing fifth with a distance of 15.00m.
Up next, the Owls travel to State College, Pa. for the Penn State National Open on January 29-30.
