Women’s 4x800m Relay Snaps School Record At Penn State National Invitational

Results
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Temple women's 4x800m relay team, comprised of Shadaya Bennett, Victoria Gocht, Tashima Stephens and Paris Williams, shattered the school record Saturday at the Penn State National Invitational.
Running a time of 9:06.05, the women's 4x800m team broke the 23-year old school record which was set at 9:14.00.
The meet featured a slew of national contenders from the east coast, with programs such as Tennessee, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Miami (Fla.) and host Penn State bringing out their best competitors.
Gocht continues to have a stellar freshman debut, and highlighted her weekend bettering her school record in the 800m, finishing first out of collegiate competitors in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:09.09 (.09 second off NCAA provisional marks).
Williams also met ECAC qualifying marks, leading the Owls in the 400m dash placing third in a time of 56.16. Bennett set a personal best in the 500m, running an ECAC qualifying time of 1:15.61.
In the pole vault, reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week Melissa (Gale) Hand cleared 3.45m for a fourth place finish. Also in the field, sophomore Alanna Owen threw 13.03m for an eleventh place finish.
Senior Brittney McRae led the Owls in the 60m hurdles, meeting ECAC qualifying marks in a time of 8.84. She also placed 13th in the long jump, clearing a distance of 5.55m In the same event, Christiana Taylor set a season best with 5.51m.
The women's 4x400m relay also met ECAC qualifying marks, with Tessa West, Sheina Roberts, McRae, and Williams combining to run a time of 3:51.34.
Competition for the Owls continues as the squad splits to compete at either the New Balance Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 5-6) or the Haverford Duals (Feb. 6).
