Noone named Performer of the Year, makes third appearance on squad

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer sophomore forward Tyler Witmer and senior midfielder J.T. Noone were named to the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Soccer Team.  Noone was also dubbed Performer of the Year, an honor he shared last year.  The team, consisting of 14 student-athletes, is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

A two-time All-Atlantic 10 Conference first team selection and NSCAA 2008 Second Team All-America, Noone led the Cherry and White in assists for the third consecutive season (7). Setting the single-season assist mark in 2008 with 13, he became TU's all-time leader in that category against Albany on Sept. 20, 2009 and ended his career with 26 dishes. Combined with 12 career goals, he accumulated 50 points during his tenure.

The Harrisburg, PA native (Central Dauphin) owns a 3.70 cumulative grade point average, and became just the second Temple student-athlete to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors twice, making Second Team in '09 and First Team in '08. A two-time Academic All-Atlantic 10 Conference team, he earned the 2008-09 top male Student-Athlete of the Year at TU's annual Breakfast of Champions.

Witmer earns his first appearance on the team, boasting a 3.10 cumulative grade point average as a kinesiology major. The Wernersville, Pa. native led the Owls in goals for the second consecutive year (6), boasting a team leading 15 points.
