Mason Leads Golf to Second Place Finish at Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate

Owl senior places second overall for best-ever showing
BEDMINSTER, NJ - The Temple golf team turned in its best finish of the fall season, placing second at the 18-team Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate held this Saturday and Sunday at the River Course of the Fidler's Elbow Country Club. The Owls (296-296, 592), which led after the first round, finished five strikes back of Binghamton (298-289,587) and seven strokes ahead of third place Villanova (300-299, 599).
"I am very proud of how we competed and it would have been great if we won," Temple head coach Brian Quinn said. "We didn't lose, we got beat by a good team. Binghamton played a great round today and they are a little better than us at this point of the season. "
Senior Andrew Mason led Temple and was tied for second overall with a one under-par 143 (72-71) for the best finish of his career. Freshmen Steve Burak tied for tied for 13th overall with a five over-par 149 (75-74) while fellow freshman Connor McNicholas was one stroke back and tied for 16th with a 150 (73-77). Sophomore Devin Bibeau (82-74, 156) and freshman Russell Hartung (76-80, 156) tied for 46th among the 95 participants.
"This whole semester we have played really well," Quinn added. "We are young and starting to come around. The newcomers have really worked hard on their games and Andew has been a great leader and example for them."
Delaware's Justin Martinson, who repeated as champion, carded a course record eight-under 64 on Sunday for a two-day total of 141.
Following Binghamton, Temple and Villanova were Seton (603), Delaware (604), St. Francis (PA) (607), Lafayette (609), Fairleigh Dickinson (614), Drexel (618), St. Peter's (618), Rutgers (622), Lehigh (623), Fordham (624), Long Island (624), Monmouth (627), Colgate (633), Rider (638) and Wagner (661).
The Owls next compete in the Furman Intercollegiate on October 19-20.
