Mason, Burak earn A-10 Player, Rookie honors
NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Temple's Andrew Mason and Steve Burak were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Golf Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Mason posted a 1-under 143 (72-71) to finish tied for second among 95 golfers at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate in Bedminster, N.J. The senior from Huntingdon Valley, Pa., shot an even par 72 following the first round and a 1-under par 71 in the final round to register his best career finish. Mason finished the tournament two strokes behind the individual medalist.
Burak posted the second lowest score for Temple at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate finishing in a tie for 13th with a 5-over par 149 (75-74). The finish for the freshman from North Easton, Mass., was his best outing so far this fall.
Both Mason and Burak led the Owls to a second place finish out of 18 competing schools. It marked Temple's best team finish of the fall season.
