Owls earn recognition after a 25-9 season and a NCAA Second Round appearance
PHILADELPHIA – Noting that it's a team “flying under the radar,” the Sporting News has ranked the Temple women's basketball team 22nd in its women's college season preview. The top 25 includes five teams on the Owls' regular season schedule which will start with Ohio State (7th) on November 12.
The preview, written by Joe Perez of the Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin names the top 25 and includes breakdowns of each team.

22) Temple (25-9, 11-3 Atlantic 10)
Flying under the radar in the Atlantic 10 are the Owls, who lost five games a year ago to teams that finished the season ranked in the top 10. Now battle-tested, Temple brings back three starters from a unit that played hard-nosed defense and caused headaches for bigger names in the sport.
Still, Temple will need to produce more offense if it wants to go beyond the second round of the NCAA Tournament. All-Atlantic 10 performer Kristen McCarthy is back, but she can't be expected to do all of the heavy lifting. Qwedia Wallace went from full-time reserve to part-time starter last year and posted nearly identical numbers. Junior BJ Williams and sophomore Natasha Thames will assume bigger roles this season.

The Owls will open the regular season at home Nov. 12 against Ohio State in a doubleheader with the Temple men's basketball team. Ohio State is one of three non-conference opponents the Owls will face that advanced at least to the 2010 NCAA Second Round. The Buckeyes are ranked seventh in the Sporting News preview.
Other opponents listed are Xavier (4), Duke (6), UCLA (20) and Rutgers (25).
The complete poll is as follows:
1) Connecticut (39-0, 23-0 Big East)
2) Baylor (27-10, 9-7 Big 12)
3) Stanford (36-2, 18-0 Pac-10)
