Billikens win in three close sets against the Owls

Box Score (PDF)

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple volleyball team fought to extra points in the second set but ultimately lost 3-0 to Saint Louis by scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-21 at home on Friday night. The Owls will be back in action at home tomorrow night against Duquesne.

Elyse Burkert and Gabriella Matautia led TU with eight kills apiece and Ariel Pierre tallied a match-high 21 digs. Rikia Trischuk notched a double-double with 28 assists and 13 digs.

Alyssa Deno led Saint Louis with a match-high 15 kills to go along with 13 digs, while Megan Boken also tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs.

The Owls were down 18-13 in the first set before rallying to come within two points at 19-17, but errors down the stretch helped lead to the Billikens taking every point the rest of the way.

In the second set Temple was down by five points at 16-11, but the Owls put up a fight and tied the score at 20-20. There were four more ties as the teams battled, but at 24-24 the Billikens' Boken and Deno knocked down back-to-back kills to put their team up 2-0 for the match.

Temple stayed close throughout the third set, but lost steam in the final stretch as three errors set up match point for Saint Louis, and the Billikens' Carly Marcum got the final point with a kill.

Temple is back in action tomorrow night at home against Duquesne. The match is set for 7:00 p.m.
