CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Junior Tyler Witmer came through with the golden goal in double-overtime to lead the Temple men's soccer team past No.16 Charlotte, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Transamerica Field. Witmer's goal gave the Owls (6-8-2, 4-3-0) a critical Atlantic 10 win and handed the 49ers (11-5-0, 6-1-0) their first conference loss.
The win marks the second consecutive year the Owls have topped Charlotte, who coincidentally has been ranked both times. Temple beat then-No.15 Charlotte 2-1 on November 8 of last year.

Temple was outshot 18-4 in regulation. Temple redshirt-senior keeper Bret Mollon (5-8-2) made four saves in the first two periods, coming up huge in with three saves in the first overtime.
Witmer's moment come in the 108th minute, as he snatched a deflected pass from freshman Dalton Carroll and found himself all alone with Charlotte keeper Gavin Dawson (8-1-0). Witmer kept his poise and sent home the game-winner in dramatic fashion. For Carroll, it marks his first collegiate point.
Temple is now 4-3-0 in Atlantic 10 play with two games remaining. Next weekend, the Owls return home to take on George Washington on November 5 and Richmond on November 7.
