Winning weekend could find the Owls in the Atlantic 10 Tournament
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's soccer team is looking to extend its season with a trip to the Atlantic 10 playoffs as they close out the regular season hosting George Washington and Richmond. The Owls are 4-3-0 in conference play, putting them in a five-way tie for fifth place in the A-10 standings.
Three seniors - Jared Harris, Max Kinderwater and Bret Mollon - are making their final appearances on the pitch at Ambler this weekend. Harris and Kinderwater are four-year starters under head coach David MacWilliams, while Mollon has been the team's No.1 keeper since transferring three years ago. The Senior Day ceremony will begin prior to the 1:00 start on Sunday.
Momentum favors the Owls heading into competition this weekend, who topped then-No.16 Charlotte 2-1 in double-overtime last Sunday. Freshman Vaughn Spurrier gave Temple an early lead in the first half, with freshman Dalton Carroll setting up junior Tyler Witmer for the golden goal in the second overtime period.
The 49ers still sit atop the conference standings with a 6-1-0 record, their only belmish coming at the hands of the Owls last weekend. St. Bonaventure, Massachusetts and La Salle round out the current top four. Temple is tied with Fordham, Xavier, St. Louis, and Duquesne with 12 points in fifth place.
The Colonials have lost all seven of their A-10 matches heading into competition this weekend. Richmond is 3-4-0 in conference play, coming off of back-to-back losses at Duquesne and St. Bonaventure.
Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. on Friday as the Owls take on George Washington. Sunday, Temple will honor its three seniors prior to the Owls 1:00 p.m. match against Richmond.
