Volleyball Defeated in A-10 Play by #19 Dayton

PHILADELPHIA – Despite an impressive defensive effort, the Temple volleyball team was out-matched by 19th-ranked Dayton and suffered a 3-0 loss on Friday night in McGonigle Hall. The Flyers (14-3, 5-0) won by scores of 25-5, 25-9 and 25-16, dropping the Owls to 4-14 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Senior Ariel Pierre continued her outstanding back row play for Temple, coming up with 19 digs in the three-set match. Pierre now stands in sixth all-time at Temple in career digs with 1,363.
Senior Ashley Carr and freshman Elyse Burkert led the Owls with seven kills apiece.
The Flyers showed their height advantage, finishing with 14 blocks to Temple's two. Defensively, the Owls kept a lot more balls in play than the scores would indicate, finishing with 44 digs.
In the third set Temple got its offense going and matched Dayton with 11 kills. But the Flyers' recorded half of their 14 blocks in the final set, especially late in the set to pull away from the Owls.
Temple will be back in action on Saturday night as the Owls play host to Xavier at 7:00 p.m.
