Freshman Connor McNicholas leads the Owls on first day of competition

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA - Freshman Connor McNicholas carded a three over-par 73 on the first day of competition at the Big 5 Invitational on Saturday to help host Temple tie for 14th place in the 21 team event at the Plymouth Country Club. The Owls combined for a team total of 303, trailing first place Furman (283) by 20 strokes.
Princeton (289) was six strokes back of Furman in second place while defending champion Campbell was tied with Villanova for third place, eight strokes behind with a 291. Rounding out the field in descending order is St. John's (292), Yale (293), Kentucky (293), Rhode Island (294), Seton Hall (296), Dartmouth (296), Binghamton (297), Harvard (299), Penn (301), Temple, Fordham (303), Drexel (304), Saint Joseph's (310), Brown (310), Francis Marion (311), Cornell (313) and La Salle (320).
Furman's Matt Broome shot a four under-par 66 to lead the field by two strokes. Dartmouth's Peter Williamson is in second place with a two-under 68.
Freshmen Steve Burak was two strokes behind McNicholas as the second Owl finisher, tying for 42nd overall with a 75. Senior Andrew Mason (77) is tied for 66th while sophomore Devin Bibeau (78, t-76) and freshman Russell Hartung (82, t-97) rounded out the Cherry and White.
Play concludes Sunday.
