Led men's basketball to seven wins and #15 national ranking

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Ryan Brooks has been named the Owlsports.com Athlete of the Month for January. The 6-4 guard helped lead the Temple men's basketball team to a 7-2 month and its highest national ranking #15/15 in the polls since the final polls of the 1999-2000 campaign.

The Owls co-captain topped the team with a 16.1 scoring average and boasted a team-high 21 three-pointers made (21). He also pulled down 4.6 rebounds per game and shot a blistering 86.7 percent from the line. The Narberth, Pa. native (Lower Merion High School) topped 20 points three times with a career-high 29 in the win over Massachusetts. In that Jan. 16 76-64 win over the Minutemen, he also became the 45th player in Temple history to eclipse the 1000-point plateau.

Brooks scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a career-high 43 minutes in a 68-64 overtime win at Rhode Island on Jan. 10. He led Temple with 22 points in a big win over
Xavier (1/20). He also scored 20 points in a tough road loss to A-10 leader Charlotte (1/27). During the month he earned his first career A-10 Player of the Week honor.

For the season, Brooks leads Temple in scoring (15.0 ppg.) and minutes played (36.3 mpg.) while ranking second in rebounding (4.8 rpg), free throw percentage (.800) and three-pointers (39).

The Owls, 19-5, 7-2 in the A-10, return to the Liacouras Center for a Saturday game against
Rhode Island (4:00 p.m./Comcast SportsNet). That is the second half of a men's/women's doubleheader with the Temple women hosting Charlotte (1:00 p.m.). It is also Hooter The Owl's Birthday with special promotions and giveaways surrounding the event.
