Owls Women's Tennis Gets Back in Win Column with Victory Over Drexel

Temple hands cross-city rival 7-0 defeat
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Temple women's tennis team got itself back in the win column with a convincing 7-0 victory over visiting Drexel on Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls took two of three doubles matches and didn't drop a singles set on the way to the win.
In doubles play, Katharina Mittag and May Johnson put Temple in good shape with an 8-2 win over Emma Brook and Lara Hamad at the third flight. After Drexel claimed the number two doubles match, Lucie Pazderova and Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova sealed the point for TU with an 8-6 win at the first flight for the 1-0 lead going into singles play.
It was all Cherry & White in singles action with the squad taking all six matches in straight sets. Rukavyshnykova was particularly hasty, defeating Gozde Unkaya 6-1, 6-0 at number two. Also making quick work of her opponent was number six player Josephine Bergman, defeating Melissa Bohm by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
"The girls played a great match against Drexel today," said head coach Steve Mauro. "They've been working hard all week in practice and their efforts paid off today, especially in singles where we didn't drop a set."
Temple improves to 3-4 on the season. The Owls head to Army for their next action, facing the host team at 10 a.m. on February 27, before taking on Manhattan College later that day.
