Temple plays Monarchs for the second time in just over a week
NORFOLK, Va. - The Owls men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Old Dominion on Saturday, February 20, 2010. It was the second time in a week that Temple has faced the Monarchs.
In doubles play, ODU took the number one and two flights, but Mansur Gishkaev and Dmitry Vizhunov reversed the outcome from a week ago, defeating Fahoum Fahoum and Albert Ochagavia, 8-5, at number three. The Old Dominion duo took an 8-6 decision last weekend.
Despite ODU coming away with five of the six singles matches, things were closer than the final score indicates. Three of the six matches went three sets, including number one player Filip Rams' competition against Tobias Fanselow. Fanselow took the first set 6-1 before Rams came back with a 6-3 win in the second. Fanselow finished it with a 6-2 third set. Also going three sets were Vizhunov at number two and Gishkaev at four.
Temple's point came at number five where Kacper Rams defeated Ochagavia by a count of 6-1, 7-5.
"Although we lost the match, the team played very well and many of the matches could have gone either way," commented head coach Steve Mauro. "I was happy with the way the Temple men's tennis team performed today."
The Owls are 1-5 and take on William & Mary at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 21.
