KINGSTON, R.I. – A program-best tying third place finish for the Temple women's track & field team at the Atlantic 10 Championship was fueled by freshman Victoria Gocht, who was named Women's Most Outstanding Rookie Performer. The freshman won the 800m title, and helped lead the 4x800m relay team to victory.
Charlotte and Dayton tied for first with 145 points. The Owls scored a team total of 108.50, edging Rhode Island who tallied 105 points. Temple tied is best-ever finish from 2003, when they also placed third.
Clocking in at 2:11.13, Gocht was the Owls lone individual title winner on the day. She then teamed with classmate Tonney Smith, and juniors Shadaya Bennett and Tashima Stephens to secure the 4x800m relay in a time of 9:08.72.
Sheina Roberts joined with the 4x400m relay team, comprised of Tessa West, Paris Williams, and Paige White, to place third in a time of 3:52.54.
In the 400m run, Williams placed second in a time of 56.02. She also ran the 200m finals, finishing in fourth place with a time of 25.65.
A pair of Owls placed in the top 5 in the 500m run, with Bennett placing second (1:15.50) and West placing fourth (1:16.54).
Sophomore Alanna Owens placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 44-00.50. Also in the field, junior Abigail Blomeke finished fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-03.00.
In the pentathlon, senior Christiana Taylor and classmate Shaniece Stonewall ended three-four, scoring 3384 and 3176 points, respectively.
Up next the Owls qualifiers compete in the ECAC Championships, held March 6-7 in Boston, Mass.
