Owls junior, battling injury, steps up to fill bar team

PHILADELPHIA – Announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference, Temple women's gymnastics junior Chelsea Lapent has been named Coaches' Choice, for the week ending February 22.

Lapent has mainly competed floor and vault for the Owls for the last three seasons. Due to numerous injuries, the team did not have enough women for the bar line-up at the Towson Invitational. Lapent put a basic bar routine together to compete for the Owls.

The Lafayette Hill, Pa. native (Plymouth Whitemarsh) has been battling a wrist and ankle injury this season, but was still ready to step up and compete an event she had never competed before for the Owls.

Although she only ended up exhibitioning bars for the Owls, Lapent's attitude and hard work this week proved to be a high point in her career.

The Temple women's gymnastics team is back in action this weekend when they compete at West Chester on February 26. Competition begins at 6:00 p.m.
