New York, N.Y. – Freshmen Sheina Roberts and Victoria Gocht each met ECAC qualifying marks, and senior Melissa Gale improved her school record as the Temple women's track team competed at the New Balance Invitational, Widener Invitational, and Haverford College Invitational.
The New Balance Invitational was held Friday and Saturday in New York, N.Y.
Williams continues to have a solid season, clocking a time of 1:13.34 in the 500m for a second place finish ahead of competitors from Southern California, Ohio State, and Villanova. In the same event, freshman Victoria Gocht met ECAC marks placing sixth in a time of 1:14.33.
Roberts placed 12th in the 400m, running a time of 57.01.
In the 60m hurdles, senior Brittney McRae ran a time of 8.85, placing fourth. Finishing on her heels was junior Brittany Clybourn, who ran a time of 8.86 for fifth place.
In the 800m, junior Tashima Stephens ran a time of 2:15.05 for an 11th place finish.
McRae also fared well in the long jump, placing 11th with a distance of 5.62m.
Representing Temple in the 4x400m Pennsylvania race, Gocht, Williams, Roberts, and West ran a time of 3:45.54 to meet ECAC marks and place second.
At Widener on Friday, Gale cleared a height of 12-00 to improve her school record and ECAC qualifying mark. Helen Merziowski set a personal and season best of 10-00 in the same event.
Chelsea Robinson set a personal best in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 11.02m. Alanna Owens continues to lead the Owls in the throws, placing first in the weight throw with an ECAC qualifying mark of 45-10.50.
At the Haverford Invitational, junior Rebecca Mims led the Owls in the 800m, placing first in a time of 2:22.12. McRae also had a first place finish for Temple, clocking a time of 25.93 in the 200m.
Shaniece Stonewall placed first in the long jump, clearing a distance of 5.26m. Also faring well for the Owls was Rita Taste, posting a season best 8.59 in the 55m hurdles and 7.46 in the 55m dash.
Andrea Butler posted a season best in the 55m dash, placing second overall in a time of 7.35.
Up next for the Owls are the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, held February 19 and 20 at the University of Rhode Island.
