Bennett helped lead Owls to a 2-0 week with wins at Saint Joseph's and La Salle
PHILADELPHIA - Temple's Marli Bennett was awarded the Big 5's Player of the Week honor for women's basketball after helping lead the Owls to a 2-0 week with wins over Saint Joseph's and La Salle.
Bennett, a junior center, scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed seven boards in a 58-56 win at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 2. On Feb. 6, she again racked up 11 points and nine rebounds as the Owls defeated La Salle 55-34 in Big 5 action.
Freshman Natasha Thames was named to the Big 5 weekly honor roll. Thames shot 4-of-6 from the field coming off the bench at Saint Joseph's and nearly finished with a double-double, racking up 10 points and nine rebounds. She also grabbed a career-high and game-high 11 rebounds against La Salle, while also adding four points in the win.
The Owls have won seven of their last eight contests and currently stand at 17-6 overall. Temple is 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play, and will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 10 in a home game against Massachusetts.
