PHILADELPHIA – Tonya Cardoza and the eighth-seeded Temple women's basketball team (24-8) will make their seventh-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, March 21, when they take on the ninth-seeded James Madison Dukes in Norfolk, Va., at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Top-seeded UConn will face #16 Southern at 12:16 p.m., and the Owls' game will follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of that contest. The game will be televised on ESPN.

This is the fourth straight year and fifth overall that the Owls have garnered at at-large bid. Last year, ninth-seeded Temple lost to eighth-seeded Florida in the first round. TU's #8 seed is its highest since 2007, which was the last time the Owls advanced to the second round after defeating ninth-seeded Nebraska.

James Madison, the winner of the Colonial Athletic Association's automatic bid, will be making their eighth overall NCAA tournament appearance and first since 2007. JMU enters postseason play with a 26-6 record after winning the CAA Tournament which it hosted this past weekend.

Temple finished the regular season with a record of 24-8, and the third-seeded Owls advanced to the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship before falling in an overtime heartbreaker to top-seeded and #5/5 Xavier. To earn their spot in the title game, the Owls won an overtime thriller against second-seeded Dayton, 67-64.

Sophomore Kristen McCarthy and senior LaKeisha Eaddy earned A-10 All-Tournament Team honors. McCarthy was also named to the 2010 A-10 First Team, while Eaddy was selected to the A-10 Third Team as well as the A-10 Defensive Team.

Norfolk's other matchup features the #1-overall seed UConn Huskies, who have won an NCAA record 72 straight games. Southern University is 23-8 overall, and won the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship to garner an automatic bid.

Sunday's first-round winners will advance to the second round game on Tuesday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m.
